YOUR EYES ON THE CITY

News starts before it becomes a headline.

You may see a closure before it is announced, notice a public-service problem affecting your neighborhood, have documentation about a decision that deserves scrutiny, or know about a cultural opening that the city should not miss. You do not need to write the story. You only need to help us understand what happened and why it may matter.

You witnessed itTell us what you saw, where you were, and when it happened.
You have documentsRecords, notices, correspondence, public documents or other verifiable material can help establish facts.
Your neighborhood is affectedClosures, services, development, transportation or safety issues may begin locally.
You know what we should investigateA tip can be the starting point. Our job is to verify it.

WHAT BELONGS HERE

Send us something specific.

The most useful tips concern a real event, change, pattern, decision, place or person that can be checked independently. Examples include:

Breaking events

Major closures, disruptions, public incidents or developing situations.

Transportation

Metro, Metrobús, airport, road and mobility changes.

Public services

Water, health, schools, neighborhood services and infrastructure.

City decisions

Policies, public programs, government actions and records with a CDMX impact.

Business + development

Openings, closures, construction, real estate and major investment changes.

Culture + community

Museums, events, local institutions and stories that deserve wider attention.

MAKE IT EASIER TO VERIFY

What makes a strong news tip?

You do not need every answer. A few precise details can make a huge difference.

  • What happened? Describe it plainly.
  • Where? Give the street, neighborhood, building or institution.
  • When? Include the date and approximate time.
  • How do you know? Tell us whether you witnessed it or learned it another way.
  • Who else can verify it? Names are helpful when appropriate.
  • What evidence exists? Photos, video, notices, documents or public records.

CONFIDENTIALITY MATTERS

Tell us how you want to be contacted.

You may ask us to keep your name out of a published story. That is different from being technically anonymous. Ordinary email can reveal information such as your email address and metadata, so do not assume an email submission is anonymous simply because you leave your name blank.

On the recordYou are comfortable being identified and quoted by name if the story moves forward.
Confidential sourceTell us if you need your identity withheld from publication. A reporter may need to discuss the terms with you.
No name providedYou can omit your name, but email itself may still identify you to the newsroom.

SUBMIT YOUR NEWS TIP

Give the newsroom the essentials.

This simple form opens your email app and sends the information to our existing CDMX Magazine inbox. You can attach photos, video or documents once the email opens.

Attachments: after you press Submit News Tip, your email application should open. Add any photos, video, screenshots or documents there before sending.

Or email directly: hello@cdmxmagazine.com

IF SOMEONE IS IN IMMEDIATE DANGER

A newsroom is not an emergency service. Contact emergency responders first. In Mexico, the general emergency number is 911. Send the newsroom information only when it is safe to do so.

PHOTOS, VIDEO + DOCUMENTS

Preserve the original if you can.

Original files may contain useful date, time or location information. Avoid editing, cropping or adding text before sending when the original is available. If a document contains private information that is unrelated to the story, tell us before sharing it.

Photos + video

Tell us who made the image, when it was taken and whether you have the original file.

Documents

Explain what the document is, where it came from and why you believe it is authentic.

Screenshots

Include the original link, account or context when possible so we can verify what the screenshot represents.

AFTER YOU SUBMIT

A tip is the beginning, not the finished story.

1. We review it. An editor looks at whether the information is specific, relevant and potentially verifiable.

2. We verify independently. We may seek records, contact additional sources, visit the location or ask you follow-up questions.

3. We assess public interest. Not every tip becomes a story. Verification and relevance come first.

4. We report what we can establish. Publication is based on reporting, not on the existence of a tip alone.

HELP US FOCUS ON REPORTING

A tip is different from a rumor, complaint or promotion.

Rumors without a basis

If you heard something secondhand, tell us exactly how you heard it instead of presenting it as fact.

Personal disputes

A private disagreement is not automatically a news story. Explain the broader public-interest reason.

Advertising disguised as a tip

New products and promotions belong with advertising or press outreach unless there is a genuine news angle.

Material you cannot lawfully share

Do not put yourself or someone else at risk to obtain material for us.

WHO CAN SUBMIT?

Anyone with useful, truthful information.

Residents, visitors, workers, business owners, students, public employees, event organizers, neighborhood groups and people who simply happened to be there can all help us understand the city better. Your job title does not make the tip important. The information does.

NEWS TIP FAQ

Before you hit send

Do I need proof before I contact you?

No. Tell us what you know and how you know it. Evidence helps, but the newsroom can investigate a credible lead.

Can I ask not to be named?

Yes. Tell us before publication if confidentiality is important. The newsroom will need to evaluate source terms in the context of the story.

Will you publish everything I send?

No. A submission is reviewed and independently verified. Some tips may not be publishable or may not meet the threshold for a story.

Can I send photos or video?

Yes. The email submission method lets you add attachments before sending. Originals are preferable when available.

Can businesses send press releases here?

A genuinely newsworthy development can be submitted, but routine promotions and paid-placement requests should use the appropriate advertising or press channel instead.

THE CITY IS BIG. OUR EYES CAN BE BIGGER.

If it matters to Mexico City, we want to hear about it.

You do not need a polished pitch. Send the facts you have, tell us what you are unsure about, and give our newsroom somewhere to begin.
